Welcome back to our next lecture in this course. Today, we're going to delve deeper into the art of crafting affiliate marketing emails to effectively promote affiliate programs to your email list. Previously, we discussed passive ways to promote affiliate offers, like adding a PS or a subtle call to action at the end of educational emails. However, in this session, we will explore how to execute a hard sell through a dedicated email that robustly promotes a product.
Building a Foundation for Affiliate Marketing
Before diving into the specifics, it's crucial to understand the importance of establishing a solid foundation with educational content. This base allows you to occasionally insert promotional emails without alienating your audience. For instance, my first email in this strategy promotes a Team Treehouse free trial. Let's walk through the email and discuss how it effectively converts, even with its simplicity.
The Power of a Free Trial
Announcing a free trial is one of the most effective ways to convert your audience into affiliate program participants. In the case of Team Treehouse, I earn a $5 commission for each free trial signup, and an additional 20-25% for those who continue with a paid plan. The conversion rates are impressive, with over 70-80% of free trial participants transitioning to paid plans. Even if they don't continue, the initial commission still adds up over time.
Structuring Your Affiliate Email
The email begins by informing subscribers about the Team Treehouse free trial offer. A strong call to action is placed at the beginning, encouraging clicks. It's essential to include multiple calls to action in promotional emails to maximize engagement. If you've been providing valuable content, your audience will be more receptive to these offers.
Incorporating Personal Stories
Starting your email with a personal story can significantly enhance its effectiveness. Share your experiences with the affiliate program, emphasizing its benefits and how it has helped you. For example, I mention how Treehouse courses aided me in my early web development career, leading to my first job. Personal anecdotes build trust and make your recommendations more credible.
Enhancing Your Email Funnel
To maximize the potential of your email funnel, consider adding more affiliate emails to it. Currently, my funnel includes only two or three promotional emails, but I have ample content related to web development. By integrating more affiliate programs, you can increase your income effortlessly.
Timing Your Promotions
Follow a strategic schedule for sending promotional emails. For instance, promote one or two affiliate programs per month, spacing them out at intervals of 8-14 days. This approach ensures a balanced mix of content and promotions, keeping your audience engaged and receptive.
Leveraging Broadcasts and Autoresponders
Once your email list grows, consider using broadcasts to send offers to your entire list simultaneously. However, be cautious to avoid duplicate emails in your autoresponder series. Instead, add new emails to the end of your funnel, ensuring they reach subscribers without repetition.
Automating Your Email Campaigns
Automation is key to scaling your affiliate marketing efforts. By setting up an autoresponder series, you can focus on growing your list while the system handles email delivery. This strategy allows you to optimize your time and resources effectively.
Avoiding Common Affiliate Marketing Pitfalls
Some affiliate programs, like Amazon Associates, prohibit direct affiliate links in emails. In such cases, direct your audience to a blog post or review page where the affiliate link is embedded. This approach complies with program policies while still driving conversions.
Maximizing Blog Post Utilization
Utilize blog posts or videos to support your email campaigns. Include links to these resources in your emails, providing additional value and context for your audience. This strategy enhances the overall effectiveness of your affiliate marketing efforts.
